Veneers or whitening: which onedo you actually need?

Colour, shape and alignment are three separate problems. Only one of them is solved by whitening.

Whitening changes the colour of your own enamel. It does not change tooth shape, close gaps, or straighten alignment. If the only complaint is shade, whitening is the conservative answer and nothing needs to be cut.

Veneers change shape, proportion and colour together, and they require some preparation of the tooth surface. They are the right answer for worn edges, persistent internal discolouration, or teeth that are the wrong shape for the face.

In practice, many aesthetic cases begin with whitening and end with a small amount of bonding — far less intervention than the veneer treatment people expect to be sold.
