What to expect on theday of implant surgery

The appointment itself is usually shorter and calmer than patients imagine. Here is the sequence.

Implant placement is a planned, unhurried procedure carried out under local anaesthesia. Before the day itself, the site has already been assessed on three-dimensional imaging, so the position, angle and depth of the implant are decided in advance rather than in the chair.

On the day, the area is anaesthetised, the implant is placed through a small, precise opening, and the site is closed. Most single-implant appointments take under an hour. You should feel pressure, not pain; if you feel anything sharp, we stop and add anaesthetic.

Afterwards, mild swelling for two or three days is normal. Cold compresses, soft food and the prescribed medication cover almost every case. Smoking meaningfully reduces the chance of successful integration, and we ask patients to stop for the healing period.

The restoration is fitted only once the implant has integrated with the bone. That waiting period is not lost time — it is what makes the result last.

Information on this site is general. A diagnosis is only made after clinical examination.
